The Conversion of Saul

Inspired by a sermon on Acts 9:1-19, preached 10/1/2017

When hurled stones fell, rending
skull and bone, blessed life now ending,
Confidence. Certainty. Divine approbation.
The smile of God, to be sure.

Then binds, more stones to throw:
abundant righteousness to show.
Confidence. Certainty. Divine approbation.
The smile of God, to be sure.

Flashing light, now affright,
a Voice, Power, of Might and Right.
Timidity. Uncertainty. Bereft of sight.
The frown of God, to be sure.

Alone and scared, eyes bescaled,
Saul, the Pharisee, now had failed
the One he impaled, nailed.
But grace, a captive now had jailed.
Rising now, eyes descaled,
the Voice that hailed now had prevailed.
Confidence. Certainty. Divine approbation.
The smile of God, to be sure.
